PEBA is the state agency responsible for the administration and management of the state’s retirement systems and employee insurance programs for South Carolina’s public workforce. Nearly 700,000 public employees are covered by the five defined benefit retirement plans, and PEBA administers insurance benefits to more than 540,000 members. An additional 65,000 members participate in the State Optional Retirement Program.
