November 16, 2021

On behalf of the PEBA Board of Directors, Chairman John Sowards expresses his sincerest condolences to Mrs. Jean Leatherman and her family on the passing of Senator Leatherman. His impact on the state of South Carolina cannot be measured, and his legacy and leadership will not be forgotten. As a public servant for more than 40 years, Senator Leatherman was always an advocate for and great supporter of state employees.

“I, along with my fellow Board members, was saddened to hear about Senator Leatherman’s passing. As a fellow citizen of Florence, he was a close personal friend, and he always had a vision for both a better Florence and state of South Carolina. His leadership and influence will be remembered for years to come. He will be greatly missed,” Rocky Pearce, Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Board’s Health Care Policy Committee.

Chairman Sowards, the PEBA Board of Directors and PEBA staff send our thoughts and prayers to his family.
